Do you remember the story? A young boy growing up in Quebec worships Rocket Richard and the Montreal Canadiens. All he wants is a Canadiens hockey sweater. His mother writes to the Eaton company to order a sweater, but alas, what arrives but a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater. The horror, the disgrace, he cannot possibly wear this sweater.
Carrier’s childhood recollections are vivid and so Canadian. You may also remember the NFB short film based on the book, The Sweater. You can watch it here: National Film Board.
Join us for a morning of fun and celebration. Kids can make a button, decorate an ice skate, and more. There will be treats, and a chance to win two tickets to the Yuletide Spectacular at Centre in the Square (Sunday matinee), courtesy of the KW Symphony.
We’re so excited to be able to offer this free event for the families of Kitchener. Don’t miss this chance to hear Roch Carrier, former National Librarian of Canada, and to celebrate Canada at this special time of year. Everyone is welcome!
