Ann M. Martin's series about best friends Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia and Stacey, The Baby-Sitters Club is back, again, for a new generation of young readers. From the late 1980’s to the late 1990’s this series of books, which included over 200 titles, was extremely popular, especially with girls. They devoured these books, and anxiously awaited each new volume. I suspect lots of those girls will be excited to introduce their daughters to the Club.
This time the stories are told in a graphic novel format, by the exceptional author/illustrator Raina Telgemeier. Telgemeier has carved out a huge following for herself with popular graphic novels including Smile and Sisters. The combination of Telegemeier and The Baby-Sitters Club seems like publishing genius. Check out the first volume, which was just released: Kristy’s Big Idea. I am sure lots more are on the way. Good summer reading!
